All-Terrain Vehicle Area Trails for Winter 2010-2011

(Special Note to Readers: The bureau of Community Financial Assistance does not provide trails maps or trail information.) To receive a map of a ATV trail, contact the appropriate County ATV Coordinator.

Counties, towns, cities, villages and tribes can apply for funds to acquire, insure, develop, and maintain ATV trails, areas, and routes. Levels of reimbursement vary according to project and trail type.

Eligible levels of reimbursement are as follows:

  • ATV trails available for spring, summer, and fall riding may be reimbursed up to 100 percent of eligible maintenance costs (up to $450 per mile).
  • ATV trails available for winter riding may be reimbursed up to 100 percent of eligible maintenance costs (up to $100 per mile).
  • Development of ATV trails and areas may be reimbursed up to 100 percent of eligible costs.
  • Major rehabilitation of bridge structures or trails may be reimbursed up to 100 percent of eligible costs.
  • Maintenance of ATV intensive use areas may be reimbursed up to 50 percent of eligible costs.

The DNR allocates funds in accordance with the following ranked priorities:

  1. Maintenance of existing, approved trails, areas, and routes.
  2. Liability insurance acquisition.
  3. Easement acquisition.
  4. Major rehabilitation of bridge structures or trails.
  5. Land acquisition and development of new ATV trails and areas.
    6. DNR Regional Community Service Specialists must receive applications by April 15th.

    Caution to Project Sponsors - Protect Confidential Data The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) takes seriously its responsibility to protect all confidential data that are collected as the DNR administers its programs. For DNR grant programs, “confidential data” typically includes:

    • Personal -- Social Security number, date of birth, driver’s license number, signature
    • Financial -- Bank account numbers on cancelled checks and statements. Credit card numbers on submitted receipts. Account and credit balances or limits. Federal or Wisconsin tax returns.
    If a grant is being issued to an individual, we need most of the personal data listed above before we can issue payments or reimbursements. This needed data comes to the DNR on completed W-9 forms. The DNR has a process to restrict access to and secure W-9 forms.

    The DNR, however is often sent unnecessary confidential data that are attached to proofs of payment, receipts, or other documents in support of a reimbursement request. Please protect confidential data by blackening out – also called “redacting” – bank account numbers, credit card account numbers, and other confidential data before proofs of payment are sent to the DNR. Please do not redact check numbers from bank statements.

The Brule River is located in Brule, Wisconsin. This river has been visited by various US presidents, millionaires, and senators. The 1200 sq. ft. cabin has three bedrooms, one of which is a loft. It comfortably sleeps five. The cabin has an open deign to it so you will enjoy a large amount of space where friends and family can gather together. The dining table can seat six, where you can enjoy preparing and serving your own meals. There are also restaurants, bars, and other amenities within walking distance should you choose to go out and see the town.

Internet and Wi-Fi are included in your stay so that you can keep in touch with all of your friends and family while you are away on your vacation. You can keep everyone up to date if you choose to blog or send pictures while on your vacation.

The cabin is situated in Brule, about 40 minutes from the Duluth airport. This peaceful retreat is located on five acres that touch both the little and big Brule River. The river attracts fishermen from all areas. It has been estimated that over thirty-three thousand fishermen visit annually. The area is perfect for people looking to catch trout. You can fly-fish right from the shores of the property of both the little and big Brule River.

You can rent a canoe or a kayak for a pleasurable ride paddling on the Boise Brule on Lake Superior. You can find boat rentals, as well. Portions of the river offer everything from a calm ride down to nearly continuous rapids which are recommended for experienced paddlers only.

The forty-four mile long river affords the opportunity for families and individuals to enjoy riding down the river. A local business offers pick up and drop off so all you have to worry about is having a good time while going down stream with friends and family.

Skiers of all levels will appreciate the ski trails at the Brule River State Forest. The beautiful scenery that awaits you as you ski down the beautiful snow-covered grounds can be breath taking. Many folks enjoy the beauty all around them as they take in the views.
